WHAT UTOPIANS DO

The open secret is that the music industry is struggling with the very basics of music accounting: What was played, when and where? Who should get paid and how much?

Utopia Music is bridging the data gap by connecting global consumption, accurate metadata, and fast payments to an industry-wide trust platform. Our goal is to unlock creative value and enable Fair Pay For Every Play to make a better world for Music. The solutions we offer do not threaten to usurp the role of industry incumbents - it is about bringing transparency in the industry and supporting efficient royalty collection for all.


THE ROLE

We are looking to add a Senior Product Manager for the Utopia Royalty Management Business Unit to our Royalty Management services team. You will have responsibility for driving the product strategy for Utopia’s royalty services for collection societies that deliver royalties from DSPs, VOD, and non-digital services like radio and TV. As a thought leader, you will innovate on behalf of the world’s music copyright holders and collection societies.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience delivering royalty software solutions that understand the data gaps, interactions, and E2E challenges, and knows the needs and desires of collection societies and their rights holders. Most importantly, they will possess a strong inner drive to delight users, enjoy working with some of the smartest professionals in the industry, and truly be a part of something unique that will have a lasting impact on the whole music industry.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to Utopia Music’s VP of Product, your responsibilities, together with your team and peers across design, data, engineering and business will include:

• You will set product vision and product strategy for royalty management, and own the product success to seek Fair Pay for Every Play
• You will define, communicate and debate strategy with senior executives across Utopia
• Together with the Head of your Business Unit, you will set vision and OKRs and break these down into tangible targets
• Drive the product roadmap and create well defined user stories to ensure Product teams can hit the ground running
• Be decisive when scoping and specifying solutions, ensuring that product roadmaps add value to the business and continue to delight our users
• Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Data, Commercial, and other Utopia Product teams to align, synergise, share and grow the Utopia mission
• You will promote and evangelize the royalty management objectives within your area, and act as an informal leader to move the product team towards success and growth
• You are expected to lead while listening, ensure that you have alignment within the team and that they are up to date on our why and where we are going
• Collaborate with collection societies to create scalable royalty solutions that aim for Fair Pay for Every Play
• Work closely with different industry bodies and authorities in our key markets to understand and comply with applicable laws for collection societies (e.g. Copyright Directive)
• Keep an ear to the ground to follow industry trends, changes, stakeholders and developments
  
  
  

REQUIREMENTS

• 8+ years of experience working with music rights - collection society, rights management hub, publisher, music platforms that work with rights holders, or a combination of!
• 5+ years of experience in a product management, account management, licensing or business development role that has experienced the unique pain points, key components, and leverageable opportunities of royalty management systems and how they need to serve the complex use cases of rights holders
• Understands the intricate process flows involved from reporting ingestion, metadata challenges and opportunities, matching, through to distribution. Knows how to manage both the performance and mechanical rights and how these differ between different copyright stakeholders’ repertoire is essential
• Experience effectively working cross-functionally with different teams or business units (eg: Product Management, Engineering, UX/UI, Commercial and Strategic teams, or Legal)
• Experience driving elements of the product development lifecycle such as product vision, go-to-market strategy, driving requirements, and product launch.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
• Takes initiative, is a team player, keeps eyes on the goal
