While the tech world has moved into the future, the music industry continues to be shaped by inefficient systems of the past. At Utopia we believe there is a better way. WHAT UTOPIANS DO
The open secret is that the music industry is struggling with the very basics of music accounting: What was played, when and where? Who should get paid and how much?
Utopia Music is bridging the data gap by connecting global consumption, accurate metadata, and fast payments to an industry-wide trust platform. Our goal is to unlock creative value and enable Fair Pay For Every Play to make a better world for Music. The solutions we offer do not threaten to usurp the role of industry incumbents - it is about bringing transparency in the industry and supporting efficient royalty collection for all.
THE ROLE
You’ll be working on our backend system and its continuous development. With your teammates, lead developer and engineering manager, you’ll be solving heavy database related challenges and continuously making an impact.
REQUIREMENTS
We welcome experienced developers with different skills, however, this team works with Node.js so we'd need you to solve a case and show us your finesse.
- You are a passionate and skilled backend developer (knowing some frontend is a plus) that already has several years of experience.
- Proficiency working with Node.js.
- High quality code is even more important to you than the Force.
- You love to learn and you love to share the knowledge.
- Preferably you worked with MongoDB and/or SQL.
- Experience with Highland.
- Knowing ES6, TypeScript and/or React is only a plus.
- Fluency in English.
- Good communications skills.
- Good self organisation skills and strong personal integrity.

We have 3 (currently all video) interviews and here's what you can expect:
- You send us your CV in English
- We invite you for an introductory video call with the Talent Acquisition team to get to know you better and share more about us
- You get the technical test and unlimited time to send us your solution.
- Our lead developers evaluate it and we provide you with the feedback.
- You meet our lead developers for the technical interview.
- You meet the hiring manager for the culture fit interview.
- In case you decide to join us, you'll be meeting potential future team afterwards and before the onboarding.

Do you like to work in teams with a lot of individual responsibility? Yes, we know it sound cliché but this is also how it actually is.
Every morning after breakfast we gather in our teams to plan the day, assign tasks to kickstart the days. Agile, fast and inventive is how we like it. That also gives us room to pair up or hold a workshop if we need help in finding the best solution.
A helping hand and a good coffee might just be what we need to get things done.
