WHAT UTOPIANS DO
Utopia Music is hiring! Join us to be part of the Creator Services team as a key player, building and maintaining an exciting array of products. You will work, learn, play and grow together with experienced developers (and music enthusiasts) while creating a music ecosystem that works to the advantage of all participants. We’re looking for passionate Full Stack Generalists who care about their craft, are hungry to learn more and love music! We will put your unique strengths to work towards getting Fair Pay for Every Play - our mission.
THE ROLE
We work in teams of 3-5 engineers, a product manager, a designer, and a data scientist. You’ll be working on Utopia products built on the Utopia big data platform with a focus on the Creator community. We work full-stack, including the data layer, product infrastructure and user experience. We take a holistic approach to product creation from data to robust backend and customer experience. Depending on your experience and strengths, we will find the right role for you in the new team. We’re looking for a Lead Generalist Developer, as well as senior developers.
REQUIREMENTS
We are not dogmatic about tech stack and we welcome experienced developers with different skills. Our stack is a mixture of Ruby and Javascript, using frameworks such as Sinatra and React. We use Kubernetes as our application environment, we build our infrastructure as code, and we run all of our services in Google’s Cloud Platform.
- You are a passionate and skilled developer that already has several years of experience working in a Lead Developer role.
- Proficiency working with Ruby and Javascript.
- Experience with creating and consuming performant REST APIs that power world-class applications.
- Knowledge and proficiency with infrastructure and provisioning tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
- You’ve worked with and administered MongoDB and Elasticsearch.
- Familiarity with Google Cloud and CI/CD skills are highly valued.
- Knowing ES6, TypeScript and React is a plus.
- Bonus points for having experience with HAML and SCSS.
- High quality code is even more important to you than the Force.
- You love to learn and you love to share your knowledge and mentor others.
- Good communications skills, fluency in English.
- Good self organization skills and strong personal integrity.

THE HIRING PROCESS
- You send us your CV and a cover letter in English.
- We invite you for an introductory phone/video call to get to know you better and share more about us.
- You get a programming exercise and unlimited time to send us your solution.
- Our lead developers evaluate it and we provide you with the feedback.
- Then we’ll have an “on site” interview where you will talk to one of our lead developers and the hiring manager, and one more person from our awesome interview team.

Do you like to work in teams with a lot of individual responsibility? Yes, we know it sound cliché but this is also how it actually is.
Every morning after breakfast we gather in our teams to plan the day, assign tasks to kickstart the days. Agile, fast and inventive is how we like it. That also gives us room to pair up or hold a workshop if we need help in finding the best solution.
A helping hand and a good coffee might just be what we need to get things done.
