Xavier Favory has been in the field of audio AI for many years. He started his academic career at IRCAM, University Pierre and Marie Curie and Télécom ParisTech, where he completed a Master Degree in Acoustics, Signal Processing and Informatics applied to Music in 2015. He then enrolled in a PhD program at the Music Technology Group, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, which he completed in early 2021. He continued as a post-doctoral researcher until he finally joined Utopia in late 2021.
His interests lie in the areas of audio signal processing, machine learning and human-computer interaction. In particular, his research has focused on improving sound retrieval in large online collaborative collections such as Freesound. He is author of several international peer-reviewed publications, and he has been contributing as a reviewer for multiple conferences or workshops (e.g. ISMIR, Web Audio Conference, DAFX, IJCNN, DCASE). He also has strong interests in web technologies and development.
